The Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of animals in Research and Teaching Limited (ANZCCART) was established in 1987 in response to particular concerns in both the wider and scientific communities about the use of animals in research and teaching; or so their website says. It is made up of vivisectors and lab technicians who are responsible for the pain and suffering of thousands of animals throughout public and commercial laboratories in New Zealand and Australia. In reality ANZCCART are a front group for this vile ‘science’ and they aim to protect the interests and profitability of the industry and further encourage testing on animals.
Every year in New Zealand, over 300,000 animals are used in experiments and testing by universities, pesticide and chemical manufacturers and government research institutes. Species used include birds, cats, dogs, goats, guinea pigs, mice, horses,
pigs, rabbits, rats and sheep.
These experiments involve mutilation, genetic modification, live dissection and deliberate infection with painful diseases. Animals are tortured with drugs, poisoned with toxic chemicals, tormented in psychological testing, and subjected to many other atrocities that so-called scientists have been able to develop.
Supporters of animal experiments claim vivisection is vital to medical progress. They often claim that major advances in medical science depend on animal experimentation and they say scientific progress would be delayed if we abolished vivisection.
Medical and scientific experts refute those claims and an increaing number of medical experts and scientists are speaking out against the unnecessary and unscientific animal research method and have more information on how animal experimentation has actually delayed and obstructed medical progress.
Throughout its history, vivisection has been inherently cruel, inevitably wasteful, and perpetually invalid and unscientific. It’s time we put a stop to this barbaric industry.
Stand up for all the animals suffering in labs throughout Aotearoa.
